Creating a better life in Bedfordshire for disabled people

Maria Spearing - Bedfordshire Appeal Chairman
It is a great pleasure and privilege to be associated with Leonard Cheshire Disability, a charity that addresses the problems faced by disabled people. I would like to invite you to join me in giving the promise of a better future for disabled people who live in Bedfordshire.

The 60th Anniversary of the founding of Leonard Cheshire Disability in 2008 represents a unique opportunity for people to play a vital part in making a difference to the lives of disabled people.

Disabled people often face a life of inequality and lack of opportunity. Many of the things that most of us take for granted – freedom to enjoy the company of family and friends in our own space, freedom to choose when to eat and sleep, freedom to access leisure activities or pop to the shops, the right to basic independence – are simply denied.

Leonard Cheshire Disability is a national charity that for sixty years has been working in partnership with people with disabilities and their families to create and deliver an environment which tackles these very issues.

The Bedfordshire Cheshire Home Appeal is hoping to raise £515,000 to help redevelop the residential home in Ampthill. The money raised by the appeal will help fund a place to live with up-to date facilities, which will open up the lives of people with disabilities in Bedfordshire by offering a wide range of opportunities to pursue an independent life, whilst delivering a high level of care and support.

With waiting lists expanding and the demand for help growing daily, the Appeal needs to raise as much money as possible in order to bring the new facilities on stream and redevelop those already in existence.

Your help in raising much-needed funds to support this vital work would be very much appreciated. Together we can truly make a difference to the services for people with disabilities in Bedfordshire.

I very much hope that you will join me in supporting this worthwhile cause. Together we can truly make a difference to the lives of disabled people in Bedfordshire.

"I am so excited to be getting a larger room with my own shower. It will make a big difference and allow me to have friends round.

Help make my new home a reality."
