The present situation

Why we need to develop the home

Bedfordshire Appeal - why we need to develop the home
The current Bedfordshire Cheshire Home, Agate House in Ampthill, was built in 1977. It is a one-storey building offering accommodation for thirty-two severely disabled people between the ages of 18 and 65.

The Home provides continuous nursing and care services to ensure a good quality of life for the residents, and has achieved the Investors in People Quality Assurance Award.

Being thirty years old, we now need to offer a better quality of home and more opportunity for independence for the residents. Presently twenty-two bedrooms are below 12 square metres, and only four have ensuite facilities.

Setting the highest standards

We now want to re-develop the Home to ensure the highest quality possible for our residents, with new bedrooms, a larger respite care facility and supported living flats.

This is part of a 10 year programme by Leonard Cheshire Disability to replace or update many of our residential homes.

The new home in Ampthill will not only exceed the new Government regulations, it will provide a great place for the residents to live, and will be a first-class asset for the region.
